The RAID (Research, Assistance, Intervention, Deterrence) is the elite unit of the French National Police, created on October 23, 1985, by Interior Minister Pierre Joxe upon the recommendation of Commissioner Robert Broussard. Specializing in counter-terrorism, organized crime, and hostage rescue, it notably led the assault on Hyper Cacher in 2015 and the Saint-Denis operation on November 18, 2015. Its headquarters are in Bièvres (Essonne), and its motto is "To serve unfailingly."
