FOR THE BENEFIT OF ANAPI.

The "Black Tigers" was the nickname of Commando No. 24, commanded by Chief Warrant Officer Roger Vandenberghe, the most decorated non-commissioned officer in the French Army of the 20th century. Composed of Vietnamese partisans and rallied individuals dressed in black, the commando carried out "commando-style" operations behind Viet Minh lines in the regions of Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, and Phu Ly. "Give me a hundred Vandenberghes, and Indochina is saved," said General de Lattre de Tassigny. Vandenberghe was betrayed and assassinated on January 5, 1952, by one of his own men, at the age of 24.

ANAPI (National Association of Former Prisoners, Internees, and Deportees of Indochina), recognized as being of general interest, brings together former prisoners, internees, and deportees from Indochina between 1945 and 1954. It works to preserve the memory of the fighters of the French Far East Expeditionary Corps (CEFEO). Of the 40,000 prisoners in Viet Minh camps, only 9,000 returned.
