The "Bigeard Boys" refers to the paratroopers of the 6th Colonial Paratrooper Battalion (6e BPC) commanded by Major Marcel Bigeard. Reconstituted on July 5, 1952, in Saint-Brieuc, the 6e BPC distinguished itself during the Battle of Tu Lê in October 1952, Operation Castor (the jump on Diên Biên Phu on November 20, 1953) and the second jump into the basin on March 16, 1954. Nicknamed the "Zatopek Battalion" for its forced marches, the 6e BPC was disbanded on May 8, 1954, after the fall of Diên Biên Phu. Its motto: "Believe and Dare."
