Captain Yves Hervouët commanded the 3rd Marching Squadron of the 1st Regiment of Chasseurs à Cheval (1st RCC) at Diên Biên Phu, where he led the squadron of M24 Chaffee tanks nicknamed "the Bisons". Captured at the fall of the entrenched camp in May 1954, he died in captivity on July 10, 1954, and was declared "Mort pour la France" (Died for France).
