Established in 1964 by Commissioner François Le Mouël, the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) of the Paris Police Prefecture is one of the oldest elite units of the French police. Specializing in combating organized crime, hostage-taking, and counter-terrorism, it notably intervened during the Bataclan assault on November 13, 2015. Nicknamed the "Anti-Commando Brigade" in its early days, it remains a benchmark today for high-risk urban operations.
