"Par le sang versé" (by the blood shed) refers to a quatrain from Pascal Bonetti's 1920 poem "Le volontaire étranger" (The Foreign Volunteer), often quoted by the French Foreign Legion: "Who knows if the unknown sleeping under the immense arch, mingling his epic glory with the prides of the past, is not that foreigner who became a son of France, not by blood received but by blood shed." A phrase that has become emblematic of the sacrifice of foreign combatants who died for France, particularly in Indochina.

Museum-quality poster made on thick and durable matte paper. Available in various sizes.
