In memory of André Zirnheld, Compagnon de la Libération, philosophy professor and the first Free French paratrooper officer, who died for France.

On July 27, 1942, Aspirant André Zirnheld fell for France as part of the Special Air Service parachute commandos, after a night raid in jeeps where they destroyed 37 enemy aircraft at the Afrika Korps airfield in Sidi-Haneish, on the borders of Egypt and Libya. A philosophy professor in Lebanon, he joined the Free French in Egypt on June 18, 1940.

His courage, determination, and dedication are all values to keep alive! Under the High Patronage of the Ordre de la Libération and the Fondation de la France Libre, and with the support of several major associations, this subscription aims to erect this bust in three emblematic locations:

Paris, Place André Zirnheld, in the 17th arrondissement, near the Batignolles cemetery where he rests in the family vault;

The Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan Military Academy, where his poem, the "Prière" (Prayer), became, in 1961, the traditional song of the French Combined Military Academy and airborne troops;

Pau, at Camp Aspirant Zirnheld, School of Airborne Troops, where, each year, new generations of paratroopers are trained to perpetuate the spirit of excellence, courage, and fraternity embodied by André Zirnheld.

The artist: Ms. Nacera Kainou, painter and sculptor for the armed forces since 2014. Her website "Art Majeur": https://www.artmajeur.com/nacera-kainou).
