Captain Yves Hervouët commanded the 3rd March Squadron of the 1st Chasseurs à Cheval Regiment (1er RCC) at Dien Bien Phu, where he led the M24 Chaffee tank squadron nicknamed "the Bisons". Captured at the fall of the entrenched camp in May 1954, he died in captivity on July 10, 1954, and was declared "Mort pour la France" (Died for France).
