The Mountain Commando Group (GCM) is the elite unit of the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade (27th BIM). Heir to the Ski Scout Sections created in 1931 and the Human Research Unit, it comprises approximately 200 commandos distributed among the alpine hunter battalions, the 4th Chasseurs Regiment, and the 93rd Mountain Artillery Regiment. Specialized in high-mountain combat and extreme climatic conditions, mountain commandos conduct intelligence, engagement support, and small-team action missions. It is the only unit of the French Army trained in operational paragliding flight.
