The Mountain Commando Group (GCM) is the elite unit of the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade (27th BIM). Inheritor of the Ski Scout Sections created in 1931 and the Human Research Unit, it gathers around 200 commandos spread across alpine hunter battalions, the 4th Chasseurs Regiment, and the 93rd Mountain Artillery Regiment. Specialized in high-mountain combat and extreme climatic conditions, mountain commandos conduct intelligence missions, support engagement, and small-team actions. It is the only unit in the French Army trained in operational paragliding.
