The Mountain Commando Group (GCM) is the elite unit of the 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade (27th BIM). Heir to the Ski Scout Sections created in 1931 and the Human Research Unit, it brings together approximately 200 commandos spread across the Alpine hunter battalions, the 4th Chasseurs Regiment, and the 93rd Mountain Artillery Regiment. Specialized in combat in high mountains and extreme climatic conditions, mountain commandos carry out intelligence, engagement support, and small-team action missions. It is the only unit in the French army trained in operational paragliding.
